This is one big problem that has been bugging me since that past couple of days. After some research, it was found out that we need to have the two files in the sites/default folder.

  1. default.settings.php
  2. settings.php.

So, renaming the file will not work, it is mandatory to copy the file and rename it, that’s what the drupal installer demands ;-)
