A few minutes ago I received an email from LinuxFoundation.org stating that “On September 8, 2011, we discovered a security breach that may have compromised your username, password, email address and other information you have given to us.” How this happened is not yet fully explained by Linux Foundation but it seems that there is some connection [...]

A few days ago this appeared on Kernel.org’s home page. “Earlier this month, a number of servers in the kernel.org infrastructure were compromised. We discovered this August 28th. While we currently believe that the source code repositories were unaffected, we are in the process of verifying this and taking steps to enhance security across the kernel.org infrastructure.”
Gizmodo‘s recent “Google Is Scaring Me” post got me thinking about Google’s stance on its “Don’t Be Evil” mantra. I have never been the biggest fan of Google but to the company’s credit, their search is still the best in the market. Yahoo, Bing and everybody else need to do a lot of catching up [...]
The Economic Times recently published an article about a “full-fledged underground marketplace on the Web” where all your personal data which you might consider as private and confidential is up for sale. We told you about a few suspicious apps made by a Vietnam-based Thuat Nguyen which were eating up money from certain app store and iTunes clients. As it turns out, Apple just got rid of all the apps made by this developer. Apple said that the developer violated the Program License Agreement in a way that rigged fraudulent purchases of his e-books. A few hundred users were charged as high as $600 for the ebooks they never purchased. We recommend our readers to check their iTunes account and remove all the sensitive information which can lead to monitory loss.
If you are an Apple App Store customer or an iTunes user then make sure that you check out your bank account statement. It seems that a lot of Apple ids have been compromised and are being used to buy apps on App store. Hundreds of dollars are missing from a few users’ account. It is suspicious that out of top 50 book apps 40 were created by a Vietnamese developer “Thuat Nguyen”. MacRumors forum thread shows that a number of users had their account compromised and hundreds of dollars were spent from their account to buy some apps which they never purchased personally.
Yesterday a handful members of internet community 4chan hacked YouTube and targeted the videos of pop singer Justin Bieber, although some other videos were also hacked. Some users claimed that they saw a pop up saying that Bieber is dead.
It seems that You Tube had a vulnerability which allowed the members of 4chan group to inject html directly into the webpages and execute it. For a few hours You Tube was the host of a variety of malwares, pop up messages and pornographic videos.

Yet another hacking attack, this time on Reddit. According to the Reddit’s blog, their official gmail account which was used for feedbacks has been hacked. Luckily Reddit didn’t used this account to save any sort of user information so no confidential information has been compromised. Meanwhile Reddit has decided to change their feedback email address to reddit@reddit.com.
