Kubuntu Netbook Remix Killed, Fedora Might Get One

The Kubuntu Team has decided that with release of Kubuntu 10.10 there will be no Netbook Remix. Instead Plasma Netbook Workspace would be packaged with the standard Kubuntu distro. According to Digitizor an algorithm would run during the install which would decide the default workspace: desktop or netbook, though it would be manually changeable. Digitizor further says “This decision has been taken to provide efficiency towards testing and maintenance. With one less distro to worry about, more attention can be paid towards Kubuntu 10.10. Brand dilution is also stated as a reason for this decision.”
While Kubuntu is killing its netbook remix, we hear that Fedora is all set to bring out one. Although not officially announced, Fedora’s KDE Special Interest Group is working actively to develop the same. Fedora’s Netbook Spin would have plasma netbook workspace and slightly smaller install footprint. Let us see what Fedora has this time for us.
