googleGoogle has just acquired Metaweb, a semantic search engine provider. Metaweb’s most notable product, Freebase, which is a repository of structured data has more than 12 million entities in its database. Freebase has its own API and runs on community support.

It is clear that Google’s search capabilities will increase with the introduction of a smarter search engine. Freebase would continue to be free and open for users and developers and Google will help with its development and contribute to it as much as it can. Freebase would also increase the frequency of its downloadable database dumps to weekly. This might be the step which can help Google to get its market share back from Bing. What do you think?

Yup! Metaweb is nice and you may expect it on YAPS soon.

Facebook is indeed a huge competitor of Google in terms of ads but as far as search is concerned Google still rocks! Metaweb would increase their search capabilities and hence ad revenue, so you are correct in that regard.

wow! looks like a really good service for web developers! and do you know it has a wordpress plugin.. check the faq's at the bottom of the page http://www.metaweb.com/faq
think yaps can use it??

i hope google integrates it soon... and btw. more than Bing it faces competition from the facebook advertising in the long run.. its much more targeted and socially integrated. afterall google gets more than 95% of its revenue from advertising. i just wrote this because i thought the above would improve their advertising too.
