Today we saw a very interesting tweet from Kevin Rose, the founder of popular website Digg. The tweet was:

Ok, umm, huge rumor: Google to launch facebook competitor very soon “Google Me”, very credible source

While Google is already in the Social Networking business with Orkut, its services are not very popular among North Amaricans and stand nowhere near Facebook. Brazil and India being the major users of Orkut, face a lot of lawlessness and questionable content. It is also worth noting that Google has almost everything ready but in pieces. It would be fun to watch how they leverage benefits from their existing  tools like Gmail, Google Profiles, Wave, Buzz and Picasa.

Where Google Profiles can be used to build profiles, Wave can be used for real time collaboration. Gmail cam be used to send messges and buzz for status updates. Picasa is all set for photo sharing and Reader for notes. In short Google has everything required to make a social networking website, they just need to integrate everything.
