A quick note: we are not able to ping kernel.org. or any of the sub-domains. We are not sure if it was planned or it is another attack just like before. Kernel.org did mentioned that they’ll be re-installing OS on all of their boxes but we never thought that they’ll pull out the entire infra.

Please let us know if you are aware of the situation.

UPDATE 1: We tried ping.eu to ping them. We also tried using google’s DNS service but we still can’t reach kernel.org.

UPDATE 2: Newest kernel is released on GitHub instead of kernel.org. From the looks of this email, my guess is that even Linus is also not sure what is happening with kernel.org.

Can't reach them at http://kernel.org or http://www.kernel.org in Utah.

aporter I was able to reach https://kernel.org yesterday. Now again it is not opening and I don't think there has been a word about what is going on from kernel.org guys.

FYI, they've got some of their nameservers working again. http://kernel.org works again (but not http://www.kernel.org/ which goes through different DNS servers, apparently for geographic load balancing)

None of their nameservers are answering queries. If you have the A record cached locally (or at your ISP) it probably still works.

derobert That explains a lot. thanks man!

Strangely http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/kernel.org says that website is up. I wonder how these guys are able to access kernel.org
