A few minutes ago I received an email from LinuxFoundation.org stating that “On September 8, 2011, we discovered a security breach that may have compromised your username, password, email address and other information you have given to us.” How this happened is not yet fully explained by Linux Foundation but it seems that there is some connection between this and the hack that compromised kernel.org and gave the root access to the servers to the hackers.

Linux foundation will be taking all of their servers offline and would be doing a complete re-install of their operating system, just like kernel.org. It is worth nothing that both of these websites are closely related to Linux and to Linus Torwalds himself. Kernel.org is the host of Linux kernel and mirror to several open source projects and software repositories while Linux Foundation sponsors Linus Torwalds.

All the servers of Linux Foundation and Linux.com have been taken offline. We’ll put up more information as we get some. Stay tuned.
